You have to bring your ring into a jeweler and ask if a 1.5 ct will even fit into your setting. If the stone you want is too big for your setting, then you need to buy a whole new ring, not just trade out the diamond. It depends where you are trading it. For a reasonable quality 1.5 carat diamond you're looking at approximately $8000. For a reasonable quality 1 carat diamond you're looking at maybe $4500 new and diamonds depreciate dramatically as soon as they are worn. It would be at least a $4000 venture and this is using the pricing of a internet company that specialises in good quality affordable diamonds. Plus there are the extras of having the diamonds switched etc.
