Can you cut a diamond into the shape of a penguin for an engagement ring?

i love penguins and i was wanting a diamond in the shape of a penguin is that posible? Can you cut a diamond into the shape of a penguin for an engagement ring?
Hi there

You could have a single diamond cut into the shape of a penguin but it would be very expensive. The reason is that it would have to be cut from a larger stone and these are extremely expensive, for example a 5 carat stone with good quality 4Cs (I'll explain more below) could cost anything from $75,000. If you cut the 5 carat stone into a penguin you would end up with a single stone of about 2 carats and lots of pieces. The combined value of these stones would (probably) be less than $20,000 - because single larger diamonds are worth much much more per carat than a collection of smaller diamonds.

So how about another option?

You could have a penguin built from smaller size diamonds and set into a platinum mount so that it looks almost like a single stone? This way you could buy quality smaller diamonds and have the 2 carat penguin ring for a much lower price - and if you decided to cash in later you should get your money back - hopefully more if diamonds go up in price.

You also need to get a good diamond cutter for this - the best are in Antwerp, Belgium where 80% of the worlds larger diamonds are cut. You should also check out the 4Cs, colour, carat, clarity and cut. A good website to view is www.bestdiamonds.co.uk (who are connected with the Antwerp diamond borse and cutters).

Good luck
a diamond could be cut into any shape. But, I would suggest staying with either a 4 or 6 prong setting. I know you love penguins, but get serious. On your engagement ring???Can you cut a diamond into the shape of a penguin for an engagement ring?
take it to a jewelers and ask. might be expensive though.
lol....sweet! idk...ask sum1 more intelligentCan you cut a diamond into the shape of a penguin for an engagement ring?
Yes for 1.3 million dollars.
you can but only if you have a professional diamond cutter but that would cost a lot of money to get a professional.
I dont see why not. If money is not an object...
Yes you can...but bring the jeweler a whole truck-load of money. It's going to cost big $$!!!
It would have to be a somewhat big diamond to put all of the details in. I looooove penguins and I think that would be really awesome to have a penguin shaped diamond. Be prepared to pay a PRICEY price.
You may have to go with the cubic zirconium
Waterford crystal does a lot of carving. you may be able to find something there.

Do you honestly want to have a diamond the shape of a penguin on your finger for the rest of your life? It might make it difficult for you to be taken seriously in the business world....unless you have a very casual job.
Wow.. I hope you have lots of money.. although i dont know if such a carving can be made on the hardest surface there is.. if it were possible you would need to get a really big diamond.
no its too expensive uncommon tto small and way too hard to set

a knecklace pendant made from glass or crystal might be able to be made for you but again it wil cost you

try some goldsmiths or local artisans they may have advice for you
Shouldn't be a problem. Go see a reputable jeweler, take about $150,000 cash and he can probably get it done.

$150,000 might be a very low estimate.
The beak could easily break off - do you really want to risk that?

Do something like Will Smith did in the movie Independence Day with the ring for his girl - that way you can have the best of BOTH worlds.
sure.. gotto pay though
I would hate to have a penguin on mmy hand
Yeah, but you better have a bazillion dollars ready to

a) pay for a diamond big enough to be fashioned into a penguin and

b) pay a jeweler to do it.
You'll need to find a lapidary and ask them. I wouldn't recommend it though for a couple of reasons:

1) It will be very expensive

2) You will be wasting a LOT of the diamond. You have to start with a larger one and cut down to the shape... the more complicated the shape, the more diamond you lose.

3) The points and parts of it will be hard to keep clean and out of "trouble".

4) You will have a very hard time if you ever want to sell or "trade up".

5) To make it big enough to actually be able to tell that it is a penguin, the diamond will have to be pretty large.
i highly doubt it.. but if it does work out.. let me know.. =]
I think that might look a little tacky but if you like it then you should get it. Good Luck!!!
