How would I go about puchasing a diamond on it's own, not in a setting?

The diamond recently fell out of my mom's engagement ring, and seeing as it's probably less than a 1/4 carat, I'm having no luck finding it, so I thought if possible, I would buy her a new stone.|||There are plenty of online places with certified diamonds. But I would shop around. The mark up and quality varies greatly. You can even purchase loose stones on ebay these days!
