What is meant by the term Apartheid Diamond?

I think i know what it means, but specifically what years of diamond mining are we talking about? How would one know if they own one?|||Apartheid Diamonds are diamonds that funded the economies of Apartheid in South Africa and Rhodesia. Not to be confused with "blood or war or conflict diamonds" (The Angolan war was a battle of oil against diamonds. And current conflicts being funded by diamond sales.)

Apartheid was enforced in South Africa from 1948 to 1994. There are seven diamond mines in SA -

Baken diamond mine (op 2001)

Cullinan diamond mine (previously "Premier mine") (op 1902)

Finsch diamond mine (op 1978)

Kimberley mine (?)

Koffiefontein mine (1870)

The Oaks diamond mine (?)

Venetia diamond mine (?)

Most of the labor in SA mines were black prison laborers who had been arrested for Apartheid violations, etc. So look at year of diamond and source (mine) if known, Cert of Origin -- and that should get you started on determining if it is an Apartheid Diamond. Many are DeBeers.|||This is very true. The company i work for was suppose to get a shipment of those diamonds but when it was discovered that they were called Apartied Diamonds we canceled the shipments all together.
